Abstract
Bantay Balita aims to be a demonstration in using machine learning as an impartial and data-driven tool to classify and understand misinformation. We cannot simply tag from the source because in today’s day and age, creating a new information source (whether credible or not) is quick and easy to do. From our study, we have learned how real news tends to talk about institutions, policies, and current events, while fake news tends to focus on attacking personalities and sensationalizing current events, so we must consider everything we read with a grain of salt. We must do our part as citizens of this nation to be informed. With data-driven guidance from machine learning tools, we may all further strive to be knowledgeable citizens who aim to think critically for a better nation tomorrow.
