Abstract

Public companies are generally connected to each other through its common board directors. This study aims to apply network science concepts in deriving insights on the interconnectedness of company networks and board networks and compare the network of Philippine Stock Exchange companies versus Philippine blue-chip companies. Most companies and directors are connected to each other, with only a few being isolated.

Most directors are multi-sector, in line with the general characteristics of Philippine companies, especially large family-owned corporations. The networks studied are shown to not be scale free using their degree distributions. Blue-chip companies and the top 50 companies by market capitalization generally follow the characteristics of the full network.
